A lovely, antique French hammered copper kettle. This versatile piece can be used as a water pitcher, a kettle, a flower vase or as a decorative piece. It is an antique French water boiler or hearth kettle called a coquemar. It is designed to be placed in the coals of the fire to keep water hot. The long legs kept it above the coals.
This coquemar is made of solid, hammered copper lined with tin and it has a hinged lid. There is a lovely, decorative flower shape on the lid, a graceful metal handle and three beautiful, iron legs. The legs have drop shaped flanges and little feet to keep it stable. It appears to be handmade and it has great patina. less
