This Josef Albers Foundation rare silkscreen print custom framed Modernist exhibition poster " Homage to the Square " 1976, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Modernist exhibition poster is published by The Galleria Civica Di Modena Museum, printed in Italy in 2011 by Corso Canalgrande in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition. It features an artwork image originally created by Albers in 1976 titled " Homage to the Square ". copyright The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, Artists Rights Society New York / Bild Kunst Germany, A.D. Greco Feni Modena Italy.
Josef Albers ( 1888 - 1976 ) was a German born artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and The United States formed the basis of Modern Art education programs of The 20th Century. Albers was a student at The Bauhaus in 1920, later being invited by the founder Walter Gropius to become an educator at the school. There his students included established artists Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
In the 1930's Albers emigrated to The United States where he would become the head of the new art school Black Mountain College, and later in the 1950's he became the head of the department of design at Yale University. His students in American included Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Richard Anuszkiewicz, and Eva Hesse among others.
Accomplished as a designer, photographer, typographer, printmaker, and poet, Albers is best remembered for his work as an Abstract painter and an invaluable contributor as an art theorist of color theory. He is considered to be one of the most influential visual artists of The Twentieth Century. Art works by Albers are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The rare out of print framed silkscreen print Modernist exhibition poster measures 18 1/2" W X 26 1/8" H X 1 1/4" D. It is custom framed with glass in a Contemporary Modern matte eggshell finish white wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " very clean condition with very light signs of handling.
