Pleasant and elegant pair of hand-painted white opaline glass table lamps; originally these lamps were oil lamps, the mechanism with the wick has been removed in order to electrify them for more comfortable and modern use, giving them another aesthetic purpose; the base and upper decorations are in gilded bronze that time has slightly aged, but made more interesting; the lamps were made in Napoleon III style in France between 1925 and 1930 in a handicraft workshop in Wimmenau, in the Vosges region, a territory made famous by the important glassworks present in the area (Saint-Louis, Lalique, etc). Evidently, the electrification was done later and they were also prepared for the use of a lampshade (see photo), which is not supplied so that everyone can choose their favorite color and shape to match their decor; For their manufacture has been used an opaline glass of the first choice, then a skilled painter-artist has painted by hand and in relief, delicate flowers, shoots, and graceful leaves, putting meticulous attention to detail and choosing soft and pleasant colors, the design wraps around the entire body of the lamps, so they are enjoyable at 360 °. The opaline is slightly translucent glass, opacified with phosphates and chlorides of sodium and calcium with the addition of tin and talcum oxides, thus obtaining various shades of colors from pastel to milk-white; opaline glass is much less dense and opaque than milky glass (very similar to porcelain); the opaline in the strict sense is a French product that was born at the end of the 18th century - beginning of the 19th century in imitation of the Murano and German semi-opaque glasses of the seventeenth century and which has its moment of maximum splendor from 1820 to 1870 thanks to the achievements of the French factories ( Baccarat, Saint Louis and Choisy-le-Roy); from 800 onwards, the opaline spread all over the world with the handicraft production of everyday objects. France, from ancient times to modern times, is recognized as a producer of the best quality opaline glass. The electrical system is new but the wiring is European, the compatibility of the voltage in other countries must always be checked by an electrician before use. Measures diameter cm.15, height cm.37.For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects. less
