Yes, let's start with the colors. A MASTERCLASS in colors. All organic dyes derived from plants, flowers, spices, minerals, and other natural elements from the earth. You WON'T see another piece with this rich of greens, deep of saffrons, cool of blues, creamy beiges, deep of reds, earthy of browns, and soft of salmons and rose. Not to mention my favorite color in rugs, BLACK. The black in this piece anchors the rug down into the ground, and allows God's garden to grow from it. Blooming and bursting with vivacious colors it is as if energy is pouring out in every direction, all coming together to create this whimsical and ever-so timeless design. Huge finials dominate the open space that leaves the room for the eye to imagine - this piece takes you on a ride from the moment your eyes find it. Tossing and turning, pushing and pulling - your eyes never stop - but never want to either. It's a piece that somehow keeps you captivated for it's entirety. That is very hard to do for these botanical and classical pieces that honor the symmetrical designs. But this piece, because it's near one of the greatest rug weaving villages on the planet, it has that tribal essence that proves to be the X factor in all our pieces. The variations in color can keep you looking at one flower for minutes at a time, only to move one inch and marvel at the stem it's connected to. How can this be? It goes against all the ideas of open and artistic expression we pride ourselves on curated - but somehow this piece highlights the master weaver's talents, along with telling the never-ending story of all that inspires her - nature, life, and all things raw. Nice thick body makes this rug a bear that will last for generations, and although it has distressed and threadbare areas throughout, you would never be able to tell with all the details and beautiful that steal the show. The SIZE ALONE is truly so rare and difficult to find - hence leading one to safely assume that this piece was woven for a very wealthy or significant aristricate or royal/diplomatic family. Perhaps it was woven for a governing building somewhere in Europe, as those buildings make more sense for this given size. American spaces back in the day were still massive and usually appropriately "standard" in size, but not Europe. Because Europe is simply so much older than America, these spaces over the pound had buildings with what we deem as quirky sizes and hence the rugs that were woven for the European market end up with crazy sizes like this one. My guess is a family or governing space in Switzerland or Germany, as these two countries were notoriously known to love the arts, specifically the art of hand-knotted carpets. All in all, this piece is a piece of gold in a thousand different colors, shades, hues, and tones - and is a FORCE for the heart, and POETRY for the eyes. This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available.
