About: One of the most Ralph Lauren styles pieces we've ever had. Old world charm that has been beloved by the Persians, the Europeans, the Eastern Market, and the Western American market all the same - true one-of-one Antique Ferahan beauty. From top to bottom this piece has such a refined sophistication about it. Matured dyes, subtle age-related patina, and a color palette that belongs near old-growth wood, fine craftsmanship molding, leatherbound books, globes, large European club chairs, deep Mohagany dining sets, Lion foot wooden coffee tables, Italian marble fireplace, old tufted Chesterfield sofa, magnificent chandeliers, world-class curated art on the walls, chunky wainscoting paneled walls, oil paintings of fruit, scenery, and all the above, and whatever else comes to mind when you think fashionable homes of the most iconic designers. There is nothing not to appreciate in a piece like this - the more you look at it the more you become enamored. The dainty hanging vines dancing around the medallion, the deep ink-blue carved corner spandrels that nearly act as quarter sectors as the entire medallion itself (If you combine the 4 corners you get an almost identical medallion). This is a detail that most rug experts wouldn't be able to identify, but that is part of the reason this piece is so attractive and soothing to look at. There is subconscious symmetry to the piece in its entirety, but with a deeper examination, you will see all the nuances and merit of the individual weavers who poured their love into a soulful and masterful textile like this. The abrash, or organic shifts in dyes, throughout the piece, specifically the medallion, is otherworldly. These large shifts and bands into different dye lots take you into dimensions of the rug that wouldn't exist without the organic randomness that happens when small batches of wool get dyed for the day of weaving. The imbalance in the medallion where the salmon focal point is off-center is authentic weaving at its core. The world perfect has no home in these mystical pieces - and the irony that imperfection feeds that part of our soul and speaks to the most authentic place in our hearts - to see the humanity and natural unfolding take place in front of our eyes - one small knot at a time - that is what the purists and most aware humans look for in these pieces. A deep strawberry field with lots of space gives the piece an artistic feel with anchoring medallion and jutting finials create the structure of the center. The sensational border filled with mini-borders flanking the main border offers a nice balance and contrast of dark and light, along with arabesque and geometric. Strong lines come from the branches in the main border that connect the palmettes and floral heads, while surrounded by dancing and windy vines flow through like they would a windy day in the garden. Deep charcoal and smokey blue-black meet oxford blue, indigo, and navy to add interest and moments of recess for the eyes as this piece has so much to take in - yet the weavers still somehow manage to find a way to hold your attention and glue your eyes to eath detail fixated on the subtleties of each aspect of the drawing. Needless to say, this piece is an extremely fine example of small, compact, and tightly woven high-quality wool tied around each piece of foundation to create a masterful beauty that seems to even fall short when calling it art, for some pieces you can't merely put boundaries on by trying to capture it in a word from this clumsy tool we call language.
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.
