They are … more Circa 1940 - 1960 box set containing 12 carved stone miniature animals in a fitted velvet lined case. They are smooth and cool to the touch, likely white marble. Excellent condition of all the carvings.

Animals are: Indian Elephant, Horse, Lion, Donkey, Camel, Duck, Tiger, Owl, crested Bird, Parrot, Peacock, Ibis. Figures are approx. 2.5" each. We do not know if these animals have some special purpose or meaning as a grouping, but further research may give an answer.

When the animals are removed from the box, sun fade to the velvet shows due to the contrast between the original dark blue underneath and the pearly gray, as the set was probably displayed with the case open for quite some time. Some show very very slight transfer of fabric dye to their backsides on close inspection, not detracting. Light wear to the satin type cloth of the lid and the band that connects the lid to the base, as well as the exterior of the box. Marked Made in India. less
