Porcelain Scalloped plate painted in traditional deep cobalt and red over white. The body is underglaze blue and the red or terracotta is an overglaze.
Imari is the Western term for brightly colored Arita-yaki made in the Imari area of the old Hizen Province. This plate has a tiny chip on the underside of the rim, hence the great price. It was produced in 1898.
