Elegant and delicate tea set in Italian porcelain, composed by 6 shaped cups with shaped saucer; they all have a central miniature, surrounded by pure gold decorations, representing female figures dressed in ancient Roman clothes in a rural landscape; the border is of a nice color between scarlet and crimson, typical of amaranth flowers, ornamental plant; the handle is very elaborate and decorated in gold; on the saucer there are elegantly embossed decorations and others in pure gold. The mark on the bottom (see photo) tells us that they were produced between 1935 and 1940 by Società Ceramica Italiana of Laveno, a town in the province of Varese located on the shores of Lake Maggiore. The Società Ceramica Italiana of Laveno was founded in 1856 by former employees of Richard, becoming a true authority in the field, in 1883 it took the name of Società Ceramica Italiana and produced tableware and ceramic and porcelain objects, in 1956 it became part of the Richard-Ginori group and in 1965 the final merger took place. Numerous successes were achieved during its century-long history, studded with participation in events and international exhibitions. The most artistically prolific and refined period was from 1920 to 1940, when Guido Andloviz was in charge of the artistic direction. He gave a very important contribution to the company, starting production that at the beginning looked at French models and later was influenced by German and Viennese schematics. G.Andloviz was a valid architect from Trieste, he was an innovator who managed to combine a modern and original design to the mass production of tableware, his stylized drawings of flowers, landscapes, and figures, in general, are typical; always in that period, there are remarkable and important artists giving life to refined and unique objects. On the cups in some parts, the pure gold appears consumed, but this makes the object much more fascinating and historically interesting.
