Provenance: Dorothy Elise Thelen Clemens (1933-2015). She was the youngest daughter of Max and Ora Thelen of Berkeley, California. Dorothy married William V. Clemens (1932-2020) on January 22, 1955, professor emeritus of integrative biology at University of California, Berkeley (UCB). Dorothy was a longtime Berkeley resident, completed a degree in social work at UCB. She held a number of memberships - University YWCA as interim Executive Director (contributed as author of Standing Ground and Starting Point: 100 years with the University YWCA in 1990) and as a valued member of the First Congregational Church of Berkeley as a Moderator in 1977.
This book was acquired from Dorothy's family home, from her husbands estate. Dorothy wrote this book, her father Max Thelen's biography. Max Thelen (1880-1972) was noted as an American railroad commissioner [Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) The Commission's five members were appointed by the President with the consent of the United States Senate. This was the first independent agency (or so-called Fourth Branch)], attorney, president of the California Railroad Commission (1915-1918), and senior past president of the Commonwealth Club of California.
