The entire facade, … Read more Antique Grand Louis XIV Demilune Marble Top Buffet ~ Credenza is a marvel of the cabinetmaker's art! The entire facade, from wall to wall, is one grandly executed demilune curvature, accentuated by the 4cm variegated marble top finished with a boldly beveled edging. The casework, although on tape measures just under 8 feet in width, has a much smaller impact on your floor plan thanks to the rounded design, yet still provides copious storage behind four large cabinet doors. The elongated pie-shaped interiors of the two side cabinets are ideal for glassware, cups and saucers and the like, while the big rectangular volume of the center cabinet can hold pretty much anything else, and even has room to house two hidden interior drawers for flatware. The exterior revels in the sheer natural beauty of the old-growth oak which is enhanced by our proprietary stripping process to produce a durable yet slightly more casual effect. The design combines tailored molding with graceful French scrolls to provide a framework for the artistic sculpture that serves as the piece's adornment. Motifs include crests, stylized shell, floral and foliates rendered in magnificent relief by an obviously talented sculptor. The undulating scrolls of the apron below are beautifully carved, even the legs and feet with cloven hoofs on the tips. External brass barrel hinges ensure easy access to the voluminous interior, making this piece ideal for showcasing a display, or for serving a holiday meal, while housing one's entire collection of serving pieces in china, silver, and textiles with a flair and style that only the French can provide!
