These three small books each have crafted full … more Here are scarce antique treasures: three small books from De Vinne Press. These three small books each have crafted full calf, over boards, with the front and back covers and spine embossed with images from each book. The biggest treasure is 'The Chimes' by Charles Dickens, The Century Co, 1905, published by De Vinne Press. The Chimes cover is embossed with detailed bells, sprites and goblins. The earliest book (1901) is 'Break 'O Day' by George Wharton Edwards. It is illustrated. inside. Outside, it has an embossed front cover with a man in a tall hat and a woman in a bonnet. The embossed back cover cleverly shows the couple from behind. The third book is 'The Man Without A Country' by Edward Everett Hale. Both front and back covers are embossed with sailing ships. This book, like the others, is copyright Century Co. (1906), but printed by De Vinne Press. The De Vinne Press is considered one of the pre-eminent 19th and early 20th Century printers.And these books show why. For their age, all three ares are in good antique condition. They measure approx. 3" x 5". considered 32mo, in book-speak. Each of the three books has marbled end papers in a brown and white pattern. Each of the three has gilt edges. All three books are unmarked, clean and bright internally. Their covers and spines are only lightly scuffed. Two of the books have black ink spots on the spine. All three hinges are weakening inside, but the books are fully intact. This gorgeous trio makes a statement for a fashion statement for any Art Nouveau or Victorian setting. The De Vinne publishing note means the books will become more valuable over time .Given the lost art of book-making, this set is outstanding. .
