This is a pastel on paper, and the image measures 23 ¾ by 16 7/8; including the frame the overall dimensions are 26 by 19 ¼.
I’ve fixed the chalk with a fixative spray intended for that use, as the artwork was extremely delicate and fragile. The paper has been spray-mounted to board. Spacers have been installed between the frame and the artwork so that it can’t press up against the glass.
I can’t find any information about the obviously highly talented artist, C.H. Roger, as signed in the lower right-hand corner. I wonder if the artist was French… or...?
I estimate the artwork to be in the vicinity of 80 years old or older.
There’s a subtle stain on the paper at the bottom (pictured), around the middle, from its prior life in its original frame. The frame has been replaced by a “newish” frame.
