A really good original oil on canvas board painting.
Vintage artwork! Came from a high-end North Florida estate.
Signed "Edo Pratini".
This cool painting measures 8 1/2" by 11 1/2" and is in its incredible, original frame which measures 12 1/2" by 16".
Here is a bit about the listed artist:
Edo Pratini had an idyllic boyhood in the Santa Clara Valley, now known as Silicon Valley. ("Apples then," he says, "were only produced on trees.") His art career started in junior-high school when an art teacher discovered his innate talent and persuaded his family to contact Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, then California's premier art school. At 15, in a summer session, Edo became the youngest student ever enrolled in the school's history . (Chouinard is now part of the Claremont Colleges.)
Edo enlisted in the Army during WWII and this service was invaluable. It qualified him for advanced education under what was known as the GI Bill. It not only paid for re-entry to Chouinard -- where he taught briefly as an instructor following graduation -- but also for two year's post-graduate study in Europe: first in Rome at the Academia de Belli Arte and the Museo Artistico, then at Stockholm's prestigious Konstfackskolan.
Following return to the Bay Area., Edo exhibited at venues including: the Maxwell Gallery and Conacher Gallery in San Francisco, the Galerie de Tours in San Francisco and Carmel, and the Braverman Gallery in New York. He was also an active member of the S.F. Artists Cooperative and its Gallery Director for a few years. After a permanent move to the North Bay, he became an exhibitor, juror and Board member at the Marin Society of Artists in Ross.
During the 1990s he produced a series of lectures, presented at the Osher Jewish Community Center in San Rafael, the Central Coast Art Association in Cannel, the Marin Society of Artists, and the Tam Valley Community Center, among other venues. For many years he also taught students privately as well as at the Concordia-Argonaut Club in San Francisco.
He is represented in the permanent Achenbach Collection of the San Francisco Museums (available for viewing, by appointment only) and has more than 500 paintings in collections throughout the U.S. and in Europe.
Really beautiful image of a mother and her child! less
