Certainly one of the prettiest silver cake baskets I have seen in 40 years of handling lovely objects. Once used as a “cake basket” this pretty piece would have appeared on the tea tray and been handed around for guests to select their scone. Today, we find ourselves less confined by rigid Victorian structure. I can see this basket on the kitchen counter, heaped with fruit or in the bath with soaps and spa necessities. Piled in blown glass baubles or Easter eggs, you will never be storing this basket - because it will always be in use.
Let’s talk about the details. Pierced patterns in Art Deco motifs occupy the open space in repousse draping. Flutes accentuate the oval interior. The swing handle as well as the rim and edge of the pedestal are trimmed in bead. Downton Abbey would be proud. less
