This is a wonderful example of vintage Couroc inlay work. This company was formed in 1948 in Monterey California, and produced a prolific array of gorgeous serveware items with delightful inlaid designs. The proprietary resin manufacturing process created an almost indestructible product which they dubbed "Phenolic", which was famously known as "impervious to alcohol and burns".
This lovely serving bowl measures 8" across.
Finish in very good condition for its age, with very light scuffing. It is important to consider the condition of individual Couroc pieces along with the particular qualities of the inlay work. Each piece can be quite different. This low profile bowl is still nice and shiny and the inlay features a silver rather than brass detail for the beak and legs / feet. The black on the red bird is crisply done. Much vintage Couroc will have lost its luster over years of use and cleaning and that is the case in this one, but it is still beautiful. Highly collectible, but equally useable in serving your family and friends.
