'Lemon juice' is a reference to the Old Dutch Masters of the 17th century. In that Golden Age the painters showed their craftsmanship by excelling in painting the sublime textures, the fresh exotic products and the abundant wealth in crowded compositions, a so called "Pronkstilleven". Marlou captured this feeling in her own minimalistic and modern way by creating the special stilllifes, with a strong bond to the Dutch heritage in this genre. Showcasing the objects such as the old tin milk jug, the lace fabric and the lemons in a different context, they come alive and form a new language. She forms a dynamic slowness, where the balanced and elegant composition gives room to reflect on the beauty of everyday life. Stimulating the viewer trough the play of color, shapes, and texture, she draws attention to looking at everyday objects with different eyes. In our material society used items are not always appreciated. For Marlou they tell a story and deserve to be looked at with care
