This vintage brass door knocker is in the shape of an elephant carrying a howdah. Elephants often symbolize wisdom, prosperity, wealth and strength. The crown-shaped howdah could symbolize royalty as well as wealth and prosperity. The door knocker is large, heavy and solid brass. The artistry is stellar. It is a salvaged piece and has a wonderfully aged patina. We believe it to be from the early to mid 1900's. It is in excellent condition. There is no maker's mark with the exception of what we believe to be "China" engraved in the mid-section of the plate, although it is not entirely visible. It is an exceptionally unique knocker, measuring 5.5" tall, 4" wide and .75" in depth. See less
