This is a Great Looking - Very Rare & Unusual Antique American Stoneware Oyster Crock - Jug. Circa Early 1900s. 1 Gallon Size. It is done in the Classic American Style 2 Color Coffee Brown and Natural Sand Color Stoneware Style with a Glossy Slip Outer Glaze. Front is Decorated In Black Lettering with The Merchant - Sellers Name - Reads E. SWASEY & CO. PORTLAND MAINE. It Also has the Number 1 - Denoting it 1 Gallon Size. The Top - Spout would have originally been sealed with a Large Cork Stopper. Back in the day these type of jugs and other stoneware containers were On Loan to Customers from the Product Manufacturers so that They Could be Used and Refilled. It is in Excellent Condition with No Cracks - No Chips - No Repairs. Displays Beautifully.
I Acquired this piece on one of my recent Picking Adventures in the Down East - Coastal Maine Region.
It Measures 10 1/2 Inches Tall x 7 Inches Long - Wide.
