In 2021, I worked with Stephanie Aubin, a graphic designer and teacher at Montreal's Dawson College, to create a mandate for her students: "design a band/album poster promoting a real show or tour that took place (or will take place) in Montreal. You may choose any musician as long as the venue is local. The show can be virtual show if hosted locally."
I offered to print and sell the four winning posters, and each student will receive 50% from the proceeds of each sale. The posters are available in limited quantities.
Stephanie's students created a variety of posters, each reflecting their personal approach and style. This one, by Christopher Olson, for the band Motel Raphael, was one of the four finalists. Motel Raphaël is an Indie Pop band from Montreal, led by Clara Legault and Maya Malkin.
I asked Christopher for a bio and this is what he said: "Christopher Olson is an artist and illustrator from Hudson, Quebec. He likes to explore as many artistic disciplines as he can, including short fiction, playwriting, comics, collage, animation, typography and video games. As an autistic adult he eschews most advice about what he should do, and instead nurtures his natural curiousity wherever it might take him. He is keeping the oral storytelling tradition alive by constantly talking about all the stories he wants to tell." less
