About Stoneware:
Stoneware is dense pottery fired at high temperatures to make it resistant to liquids, or non-porous. It is made from clay, but is more durable than other kinds of pottery and earthenware. Stoneware gets its name from its stone-like qualities. Stoneware is a rather broad term for pottery or other ceramics fired at a relatively high temperature. A modern technical definition is a vitreous or semi-vitreous ceramic made primarily from stoneware clay or non-refractory fire clay. The word ceramics refer to various items made from clay that have been heated to very high temperature and hardened. Ceramic is a broad category which includes earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. Therefore, stoneware is a type of ceramic. less
