A 1920s-19390s period Art Deco Ladies desk in the manner of French master Art Deco designer Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann with so many exquisite details-a rectangular curved top with scallop detailed edge above a receded central drawer flanked by fluted doors with carved floral gold leaf panels doors, drape and tassel gilt escutcheons with key- all seated on tapered reeded legs and bun feet-the finest macassar ebony French polish lacquer finish-24 karat gold leaf high relief floral hand carved wood panels in curvilinear multi-level scalloped panels on both the front and the back of the desk allowing it to float easily in the room.
The top has a shapely curved and carved scalloped edge that is ivory lacquer with a lovely blue faux shagreen top- like the whipped cream and cherry on a sundae!
A double open storage pedestal with 24-karat gilt fanciful lock cartouche with key, flank each side of a wood vertical individual relief panel center locking drawer with gilt key. The column wood corners have vertical relief ribbed legs, top to bottom, with circular gold leaf rings and gilt pad feet.
A Classic desk that will always be in Vogue and fits into any style.
Provenance- the Edith Hale Harkness Estate- America’s society philanthropist heiress to the Standard Oil Corporation of Fame and Fortune. Her industrialist father, William Harkness was financier to Rockefeller and Flagler to start the Standard Oil Corporation. less
