- This Nakashima Captain’s Chair circa 1950s was purchased directly from George Nakashima in 1957 while on a visit to the … more This Nakashima Captain’s Chair circa 1950s was purchased directly from George Nakashima in 1957 while on a visit to the artist’s studio. In 1994 the original owner took the chair back to Nakashima’s studio and had it authenticated by George’s daughter Mira Nakashima. She signed the base of the piece with her autograph and the date of purchase, signing George Nakashima’s name and 1957.
