Larry Connatser (1938-1996) was an accomplished pianist and painter. A self-taught artist, Connatser's artwork was inspired by music, surrealism, and a personal study of art history. His work often portrays fantasy figures inhabiting dreamlike spaces, and typically each piece remained untitled.
Connatser avoided gallery representation, and preferred to take commissions or exhibit his work only when invited. In his 30 year career, Connatser created 2500 paintings, 800 drawings, and numerous public murals. His work is represented in numerous private collections and at the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Telfair Museum of Art, and the Morris Museum of Art.
