Japanese porcelain Namazu sculpture is large and heavy enough to function as a bookend. Namazu, also called Onamazu, is a catfish that lived under the ocean, which was the source of earthquakes in Japanese mythology.
Lovely details and texture abound, from the waves surrounding the base to the scales across the body and fine lines along the tail and gills. It is full of texture, soft organic curves, and movement.
Two are available, sold separately. They match with the exception that one is closed-mouthed and one is open-mouthed. This listing is for the close-mouthed sculpture. Contact us for a discount on the set.
Stamped 'Japan' on the base. less
