These drawings are part of a series of artworks exploring symbols and language. I create these drawings by first rubbing graphite powder mixed with water onto paper and then painting a layer of gold on top. While the gold paint is still wet I scribe through it to reveal the graphite underneath. Graphite has an inherent velvety sheen, which makes the gold really pop. The gold is very reflective and shines brightly or not at all depending on lighting.
These drawings will arrive unframed. They can be easily framed by at your local frame shop upon arrival, and look fabulous framed floating in a grid all together, or framed individually and hung separately in a loose or tight grid.
About my art: The paintings and drawings I create are a balance between doing, then contemplating, then doing again: immediacy supported by intention. I exist between these diametrically opposed realms of abandon and restraint — feeling a great need to express myself, yet restrained from doing so by my equally strong need for control. My artworks are borne of these opposing forces working together to become a whole, and are a combination of raw, fluid expression and spontaneous mark-making, and deliberate, controlled drawing and painting. My practice includes large and small scale paintings and drawings on canvas and paper, and are created with acrylic ink, acrylic paint, graphite, charcoal, oil pastels and wax crayons. less
