The warm madder red field of this village-origin Bidjar scatter rug is decorated with three dark blue lozenges. The handle is relatively loose for a Bidjar. The Bidjar town carpets are far more stiff with compact knotting. The smaller village pieces,as here, are more flexible in texture.
The medium brown stepped corners show simple flowers and abstract devices. The corroded brown main border features charming rosettes. The ivory minors show reversing fan palmettes and triangle patterns.
The foundation of this village piece is all wool. The pile is evenly worn, but it still has plenty of life left in it. All colours are derived from natural sources. The relatively small long rug format enhances its decorative versatility.
