Rare antique Haviland Limoges five-hole oyster plate, circa 1900. Six available. Limoges porcelain is hard-paste porcelain produced by factories in and around the city of Limoges, France beginning in the late 18th century. Charles F Haviland was the nephew of David Haviland and opened his own company in the late 1800's in competition with his uncle's Haviland & Company. Later Charles joined with GDM ( Gerard, Dufraisseix and Morel). A back mark in combination with GDA is often found. Regarding the GDA mark on this piece, GD stands for E. Gerard et Dufraiuseix. The A stands for Abbott who was the importer and distributor for these wares in NYC. They were produced specifically for the export market to the US from France. GD bought Charles Haviland around 1882. The intricate pattern of pink roses intertwines with blue ribbon swags plus a central, alternating circle of green daisies and an elegant burnished gold scalloped border with 5 oyster holes. Six available as shown in photos. NOTE: Price is for 1 plate only.
