Although made 35 years ago, it's very much a contemporary piece, both in design and materials and should appeal to the environmentalist concerned with recycling, as the principle materials are all repurposed - nylon stockings (worn but washed!) and sisal used for insulation and filters. The artist, Helga Freund, loves to play with color and textural contrast - here it's the variety in neutral hues, warm and cool browns, and the sheerness of nylon stockings juxtaposed with the roughness of the sisal. Ms. Freund lived in Mexico during the 1970s-80s, where she was represented by the Galeria Kin in San Angel and the upscale decorator boutique, L'Arlequin, in Coyoacan, both in Mexico City. She exhibiting extensively in Mexico and abroad, both individually and in group shows. She received commissions for large scale pieces for Pedro Domeque Visitors Center and Composers Hall in Mexico City, as well as from many individuals. In 1978 she was invited to participate in the International Textile Triennale in Poland and she was awarded First Prize for her tapestry in the 1982 Tapestry Biennial in the National Institute of Fine Arts, Mexico City. less
