Italo Scanga characteristic interplay of form and color are heightened by the contrast of texture and surface by using unconventional substrates, such as silk and handmade papers. In this body of work, Italo Scanga combines screen printing and painting to create unique variations of a drawn image. These works include "Tujunga", "Red Bunting", and "A Tree In Rome"---each a series of unique screen-prints on Chinese Silk adhered to paper. Scanga hand paints each print using acrylics and inks, highlighting the interplay of printing and handpainting on Chinese Silk. Due to the unique nature of each print, these three prints are presented as a series rather than a numbered edition.
The printing took place at La Paloma withe assistance fo Stanley Baden, Ken Herrand and David Lawrence from November through December 1988 and from February through April 1989. This collaborative effort by Italo Scanga is the publication of David Lawrence Editions.
