It is a combination … more This vintage fiber art wall hanging, dating from 1986, combines traditional materials in a contemporary design. It is a combination of vertical loom weaving and wrapping; the materials are soft Mexican wool roving, ribbon-wrapped sisal, and hand-dyed cotton warp. The artist, Helga Freund, loves to play with color and textural contrast. She lived in Mexico during the 1970s-80s, where she was represented by the Galeria Kin in San Angel, Mexico City, exhibiting extensively in Mexico and abroad, both individually and in group shows. She received commissions for large scale pieces for Pedro Domeque Visitors Center and Composers Hall in Mexico City, as well as from many individuals. In 1978 she was invited to participate in the International Textile Triennale in Poland and she was awarded First Prize for her tapestry in the 1982 Tapestry Biennial in the National Institute of Fine Arts, Mexico City.
