Description: I love, love, love these gilt wood finials from an auction in Los Angeles of a small lot of these … more I love, love, love these gilt wood finials from an auction in Los Angeles of a small lot of these architectural treasures. There was only one pair and here they are. They date back to the mid to late 1700s, according to our appraiser.
Areas of gilt are still visible when they were gold and topped a finish somewhere in Italy or some other part of Europe.
Each finial is hand carved with acanthus leaves and the piece rests on a rounded foot. They are old, with wood splits and separations in the wood, which is consistent with 18th century age and weathering of wood. They could benefit from a bit of conservancy and restoration, and they will be ready for installation in a new century.
They are 16 inches tall and 11 inches in diameter. less
