An impressive pewter or Britannia metal early to high Victorian table implement
It is a very large warming meat dish with a hollow base, designed to hold the heating hot water
There is lift up flap opening for the hot water compartment
Beautifully ornate scrolled handles and acanthus leaf feet
Tree-like grooves for draining the juices from the roast birds or meats
Well marked: "James Dixon & Sons" "Sheffield" and the number 58 above; under it is the catalog/style number 200
Circa 1851- 1870. From 1851 the word "Sheffield" was added to the mark (reference: Silver collection. it site)
Measurements: Approx. 24" handle to handle x 17.5" x 3.7" high
Weighs about 15 lbs. 6 oz.
