Commonly referred to as "Nippon porcelain," beginning in the late 19th century these pieces were crafted in Japan for the foreign market. ("Nippon" is simply the Japanese word for Japan.) This hand-painted, unmarked piece has chrysanthemums on one side and three Samurai or similar fighters on the other. (Though they may be dancers and not fighters.) Lots and lots of gold! The pitcher's body is delicately fluted on the diagonal.
