This is a gorgeous French Victorian Trumeau mirror. It is from the Late 19th century. It has a dark shade of gilt wood with a gesso ribbon featured on the top and accents of fluting and roses. The print is in color, although faded, and features the famous Nicolas Delaunay after Pierre Antoine Baudouin “Le Carquois épuisé” (The Empty Quiver), 1775.
This Trumeau mirror is larger than most of this type, measuring 54" tall x 13" wide.
You will note that the mirror has dark streaks on it. I love this look, as to me, an antique should look antique. While there are many ways to help diminish or remove these spots, I much prefer the old look. One may also replace the mirror, but back when this was made, the glass was thicker than that of today; so I would never want to put new glass in an antique piece, but that is just my opinion.
If you are into unique crafting, the frame alone would make many beautiful creations. less
