Full tan morocco hardcovers, 5 raised bands on spine affixed with red and black title labels, heavily worked gilt decoration (e.g. delicate tooling of thin lines, pointillization, lighter devices, dentelle edges), marble leaf edges and endpapers, frontispiece portrait in vol. I. The work of a master, possibly attributed to a reputed European craftsman or possibly a product of the American style seen in the work of Stikeman or MacDonald after William Matthews.
