Exquisite Jar, match holder and ashtray for the serious collector who wishes to posses one the highest quality examples of Italian artisan. Hand signed by the artist on the side, Corsi A.On the bottom of the jar, noted under the glaze is "designed specially for J.B. Hirsch Co." The company.J.B. Hirsch, founded in 1907, is famous for it's post-war figure productions in bronze and ivory (then resin after the ban on ivory). The company owns the molds to some of the most famous bronze works from 18th and 19th century France - along with the lamp molds of Tiffany. It's been suggested that J.B. Hirsch could have been exploring ordering examples of Fine artisan ceramics to offer for sale in the U.S. and requested high-quality examples from famous ceramic artists in Europe and this vase was submitted by the Italian artist for consideration. This seems a likely explanation because when artist produces a piece hoping it may lead to producing an entire line of ceramics for a company they will obviously submit a piece of their absolute finest work for inspection. I have not been able to find any indication that J.B. Hirsch produced a line of Italian ceramics in this style - so this piece could be the only custom piece done for a decor line that was never put into production. Or it could have been one of the hand created, artist made pieces that inspired an small line of Fine ceramics for Hirsch. Condition: The piece is almost flawless. The white coloration is pure, the greens upon the pottery are pristine and a perfect choice for the pieces. less
