Renowned Armenian-American artist, Hovsep Pushman, says about this work: "In this picture there are several objects, namely, an iridescent vase containing a faded rose, a figure of a saint from the Medieval Ages, with a background of an Armenian ancient textile, against which rests an open manuscript -- the last page of the Book of Life."
Pushman's meditation on mortality was created in 1931 and published by Frost & Reed, Ltd. Fine Art Publishers, Bristol & London, England.
This print is SIGNED IN PENCIL by Pushman. It also has the official stamp of Frost & Reed.
Handsomely framed and glassed.
Pushman remains perhaps the most influential Armenian-American artist of his, or any, generation. Along with fellow artist John Singer Sargent, Pushman was one of the founding members of the artists cooperative, Grand Central Art Galleries in NYC. Pushman's works are in the permanent collections of Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, etc., etc.
