This is a large, beautiful antique L & F Moreau lamp from France. It is signed Moreau on the base and also has the foundry coin on the back. The lamp is in original condition the shade is likely a replacement or redone.
Facts we’ve researched but can’t confirm: it has been identified as bronze and from the 1890s-1920s. We’ve seen it stated that this lamp is not a reproduction because it has the Collection Francaise Foundry coin.
The lamp is tall, large, and heavy. It shows a girl and boy collecting fruit/apples from a tree. It is signed and stamped on the base (see photos). The lamp is about 28" tall base to top of statue, about 33” tall socket to base, and the base is 11" in diameter. It is about 27 lbs.
The white/cream colored shade with gold trim comes with the lamp is 19 1/8" in diameter, and the whole piece together (lamp and shade) is about 46" tall. The shade is in good condition, but has some minor tears in the cloth, but no other marks or stains. The material on the shade is very delicate, we can’t ensure it won’t be damaged in transit.
It has a single bulb socket. It is in great condition - but it is always recommended to replace the cord and wiring on older lamps.
Auguste Moreau (1834 – 1917) was a French sculptor born in Dijon. The third and youngest son of sculptor and painter Jean-Baptiste Moreau, Auguste began creating sculptural works alongside his older brothers Hippolyte and Mathurin. less
