BIO:
Jacques Soisson
French
(1928-2012)
Jacques Soisson was born in Paris in 1928. His paintings have astounding colors and his totemic personnages always reveal an eye-opening vibrant sensitivity. He was much concerned with art therapy, teaching ill children to express themselves in painting when words fail them. And working with them, he acquired his direct style.
A French artist, he had exhibited since 1954 in France, Algeria, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, United-States, Canada. His collections can be found in numerous museums of France and worldwide. Colorful, magical, his works reveal a moving sensitivity. "His canvases of fantastic inspiration have totemic shapes. As comfortable with monumental animation as with canvas on easel, his palette resembles Mexican colours." (Benezit Dictionary) His paintings resemble stained glass due to their definite shapes and bright, flat colors.
Soisson studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse and continued at the École des Beaux-arts de Montpellier.
Commencing in 1966 to work as a child and adolescent psychotherapist he made some attempts at art therapy. This turned out so well that from then on he originated the "Atelier d’art-thérapie". All painted works by the patients during this therapy were collected and donated to the Museum of Hospice St. Roch in Issoudun. Further he collaborated with the "Institut Édouard Claparède de Neuilly-sur-Seine"
One year later, in 1969 Soisson joined the Société d’Art Brut, having been founded by Jean Dubuffet. It ensued an acquaintance between both.
In 1978 Jacques Soisson gave up his profession and dedicated himself to painting. He lived and painted in Paris.
