Each with a gilt scalloped rim, a pierced or reticulated border (with a left-hand twist), and centers with varying hand painted, blue underglaze scenes of cherubs or putti.
The border on this set is very finely worked with a rare variation on Meissen's standard reticulation.
Simply an exceptionally sophisticated set of dinner-sized cabinet plates!
Provenance: From the estate of Catherine Spencer Eddy Beveridge (who was a Socialite and Philanthropist, wife of Senator Beveridge of Indiana, and the niece of Marshall Field) and by descent in her family.
Date:
Late 19th or early 20th century
Overall condition:
They are in overall, good, as-pictured, used estate condition, some very Fine and light surface scratches, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
Condition details:
Six of the plates have apparent accretions in the glaze. On one these accretions have come off, taking a bit of the glaze with them. We have never seen this phenomenon before, and we suspect that it happened in the firing. We also suspect that the factory accepted them as 'factory firsts' because these plates are technically so incredibly difficult to make. Six are in otherwise good condition. Please email or call us with any questions.
