It is from the Aesthetic Movement, which went … more This is a unique Inlaid Maple or Walnut Serpentine-Top stand or table.
It is from the Aesthetic Movement, which went from 1860 to 1900. It focused on exploring color, form, and composition in the pursuit of beauty, and it is American or English, from the late 19th Century.
It has an octagonal top with serpentine sides that are heavily inlaid. At the center, there is a sultan's portrait surrounded by relief-carved foliate decoration, raised on a single pedestal on a triangular base. At some point in its life, a rectangular piece of wood was added underneath the triangular base to steady it, most likely. The rectangular base is not very esthetic.
The overall piece is mysterious and interesting. The glass top is secured to the table with small screws.
23 inches tall, top 19 by 14 inches
CONDITION: triangular base may be later, with a modern plywood support. less
