This is just a great original piece. This is one of my favorite paintings I have acquired in the last couple of years. Carlos leon is a very important contemporary peruvian artist. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This painting was originally acquired from mercier fine arts and has their original label on the back of the canvas. This also gives the name of the painting as well, which I believe translates to something like "bird couple". Truly a wonderful original oil on canvas measuring 30 x 30 inches. Signed lower left corner. Painting is in outstanding original condition. The white outer painting shows a few very small spots of surface grime. The birds themselves are clean and show wonderful color and texture as the artist created. All in all a fantastic example of the artist's work and a great example of why the artist has been included in biennials around the globe. Housed in a wonderful larson juhl frame that is complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 36 1/2 x 36 1/2 inches. Painting can be shipped without the frame for international and less expensive shipping.
For those not familiar with the artist his biography from a gallery that sells his artwork reads: "peruvian artist born in otuzco, la libertad, peru, in 1967, león studied at the escuela de bellas artes of trujillo, graduating with highest honors in 1991. Interested in three dimensional works león studied sculpture for several years and it was in those years that he understood what his destiny and style were going to be. Surprised by the quality of his sketches, several of his professors encouraged him to study painting. It took him a few years to convince himself that he could express his ideas in two dimensions. León’s work is supremely technical and robust. His figures show an exceptional originality that complemented with the application of the paint, demonstrate a maturity seldomly seen." less
