This is a great original estate fresh painting. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is really a wonderful oil on canvas painting by well listed new england ivar john matheson. Clean and fresh oil measuring 20 x 24 inches. Signed lower right. My guess is that this painting is somewhere in new england, either vermont, new hampshire, or massachusetts. Just a classic image of an old white farmhouse by a lazy river. Painting is in excellent condition. Clean and fresh. It does show some faint speckling within the image but nothing bad and most of it blends with the painting. There is some buckling to the canvas in the very lower right corner from age and one small chip along the very edge near the frame. Really still a very good painting. Original frame is complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 23 x 26 1/2 inches. An outstanding addition to any collection.
For those not familiar with the artist his biography from the rockport art association reads: "born in glen richey, pennsylvania, ivar matheson was a member of the copley society of boston and rockport art association. He served for five years on the advisory board of the new england school of art and three years as a member of the faculty. He studied at the rhode island school of design and later with hoyland bettinger and scott carbee at boston. Matheson died in 1963." less
