This is just a great original print. I was lucky enough to acquire an incredible collection of 1950-1960s abstract expressionist works from a dealer who acquired part of the estate of the the former tiber press founder. The works are incredible, scarce, and particularly fine. Works of angelo savelli, alfred leslie, and grace hartigan. Prints and works that very rarely if every have come to market. Dont miss this chance. This was the original advertising piece that tiber press put out for the four volume set they produced in 1960. Today those volumes sell for nearly $25,000. Alfred leslie created the original silkscreen which measures 17 x 14 inches. He also printed this one for the advertisement as it says below the print. This print measures 8 x 7 inches. I am guessing that there was a very limited amount of these published. I am guessing that very few of these originals remain. I have been unable to find any others anywhere. The print goes to the margins and is not signed or numbered. The silkscreen is attached to the the inner fold of the trifold piece. The information tells the description of the books as well as pictures the artists at work. Print is in perfect as printed condition. The opposite page shows mirroring as the piece has probably rested closed since about 1960. Piece could be easily folded back for preservation and framing. Just a stunning rare original alfred leslie piece. Dont miss this chance to acquired an incredible print. If you collect this artist or any of the others, check my store for the others I am offering. Happy to combine shipping when it is safe to do so.
For those not familiar with the artist his biography reads: "born in new york city in 1927, alfred leslie attended new york university, studying with tony smith and william baziotes. He taught painting at new york studio school, university of pennsylvania, amherst college, and yale university. He received an independent film award for pull my daisy and won a merit award for painting from the american academy of arts and letters. He was first an abstract expressionist and then turned to realism in his paintings, drawings, and prints starting in 1958. His stark portrayals of both male and female nudes are almost super-realistic whereas his landscapes are serene and brooding. The influence of his filmmaking activities that earned him the independent film award in 1960 can be seen in some of his prints." less
