The Japanese word for black ink painting, sumi-e, is an East Asian writing and painting style that employs brush and black ink on paper. Gradations of black in sumi art are achieved by using black ink at full strength or dissolving it in water to lighten it. Here, the artist's signature is on the matte, along with the print number 27/250. The print image is approximately 4.5" x 6.5" and affixed to the matte. The size of the print with the matte is 8' x 10" and this work is being sold unframed. There is a shine to the paper used for this print. Rose Sigal Ibsen was born in Romania, migrated to Israel after World War II, and then to the United States in 1957. She has won many awards for her art sumi painting and calligraphy. This is a lovely and calming piece. See less
