For your consideration, is our lovely post war Korean Koryo Celadon Vase. The word, 'Goryeo', refers to all types of ancient Korean pottery produced from 918 to 1392 but most often refers to celadon.
Please note our 7th and final picture (for your interest) which is an ancient Korean pot from which this technique hails. The color of the mid century piece offered here is a perfect match with the ancient piece and it has the same crackle in the glaze. It measures 13" tall by 8.5" across at its widest point and is artist signed by a very accomplished potter.
The designs and shapes used in Koryo celadon were representations of the spiritual beliefs of the Korean people. The shape of this vase called Mae-byeong represents a male, having the wide shoulder and stockiness of the male form. The crane represents immortality and encircled cranes are female.
New pieces are "manufactured " today but we feel they are inferior to the mid century ones as one potter/artist lovingly created each piece from beginning to end. The are no defects, chips or cracks in this piece, although a bit of glare in some photos in an effort to demonstrate the true color. less
