The "bald head" in their name refers to the solid colour plumage (almost always white) on their head in contrast to their body and wing feathers which come in a wide variety from black to red.

This work is part of Brendan Burden's Fancy Pigeons series. This series explores the unexpected and often under-appreciated beauty of the lowly pigeon. Through the use of formal portrait techniques, the pigeon is presented with an esteem normally reserved for less humble subjects. This unconventional contrast provides a new perspective on something many people see every day and give little consideration to.
