The inside has a fitting for a small nightlight-sized bulb so that it lights up inside, as well as through the main socket. There is a fine crackle to the white glaze which adds to the charm. It's quite tall, and I've added a large custom shade wrapped in hand-printed fabric by Kathryn M Ireland, with a charming floral print in very congenial colors of ivory, orange, teal blue, green and yellow. I have added some gold tape to secure the fabric a little better though it is also stitched onto the shade with plastic thread. This is just to cover the thread and make it a little tighter-fitting, and is the only "handmade" element to the restoration.. The base has a brushed Vintage brass-colored base, which is left open so that the small lightbulb can be accessed from the bottom. This is a knockout lamp -- a big statement which would be a show-stopper in any room with mid-century accents, or be equally at home in a traditional decor. It offers a warm ambient light and could accommodate up to a 100 watt bulb. less
