The legendary and eccentric Albert Barnes amassed an astounding collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings starting in the early 1900s that he kept in his home outside of Philadelphia. During his lifetime and for forty years after his death, the work was seen by only a select group of invited guests and students. It took a court order for his foundation, for financial reasons, to overturn his will and allow viewing to the public at large and loaning the paintings for exhibition. This book shows the collection of Renoir, Cezanne, Monet, Picasso, Matisse and other masters that were exhibited first at the National Gallery in 1993 and then internationally. This softcover version from 2003 contains all the images and text from the hardcover original with 154 full page color images including three 6-page gatefolds.
