These boxes come from Kerala, India and traditional were used for bridal dowries from aristocratic families.

The village of historical origin Nettur, which is in Kerala, India.

This box is adorned with intricate work and embellishments, including Handpainted wood and brass ornamentation throughout.

Traditionally, the exterior roof-like design and ornamental work was inspired by traditional temple architecture.

This box is quite large and is in great shape for its age. The box dates to the early 20th century and has been well cared for.

Most noteworthy are the more recent restorations. Internally, the box has been lined with new fabric and a new inner section. Externally, the original lock was removed and replaced with a new latch. The original lock probably broke or was missing it’s key.
